GRYGORIY SOKIRINSKIY

1900 — 1974

1900 — born in Bilousivka village, Vinnytsia region
1923 — studied at the Kyiv State Arts Institute, Kyiv, Ukraine.
Worked as a set designer in the Franko Drama Theatre, one of the main Kyiv theatres, also in the Drama Theatre in Tyraspil and so on.
In 1944 — a lecturer in the Ashkhabad Arts College, Ashkhabad, Turkmenia.
Participated in national and international exhibitions, contests, open air and was an organizer to some of them.

Grygoriy Sokyrynskyy was one of the leading scene-painters, traveled a lot and once and for all was carried away by such kind of arts as water painting. He is a peerless master of this complicated kind of art. The artist skillfully makes his pictures in water painting which as a technique requires faultless mastery.

Sokyrynskyy truthfully conveys life on paper. The nature itself opens to him every picturesque landscape — either offings or trees standing in water. Likewise he reproduces street corners with people living their everyday lives. With wide brush strokes and color translucid spots he conveys atmosphere of the motif chosen. The master is characterized with delicate pictural vision of the world.

From the beginning to the end of his creative career his artistic manner underwent changes — from color-complicated tones the painter gradually changed over to more laconic colors. But the most surprising thing is that the colors became even lighter due to use of rich but at the same time translucent colors. His pictures are touchstone of classic water colors technique — transparent and coloration clear.
